ABG By-Election Set

The Autonomous Bougainvillea Government (ABG) By-Election for the Taonita/Tinputz Constituency is set.

This was revealed today by the Bougainville Electoral Commissioner George Manu, through a phone call.

 

The seat was left vacant following the death of former member, Carolus Ketsimur, who died last year.

 

According to Mr Manu, the By-Election and any other future elections conducted in Bougainville, will be conducted under the new amended ABG Electoral Laws.

 

Part of the law that were amended included the three-day nominations period and 4pm, as the closing of polling time. Election dates are as follows:

  • Issue of Writs: April 22
  • Nomination Opens: April 22
  • Nomination Close: April 24
  • Polling Starts: May 19
  • Polling Ends: May 23
  • Return of Writs: May 26
Mr Manu also said that all the election process of order of draw, and counting, will be conducted out of the Tinputz district Office. The nomination fee remains at K500 per candidate.
