From PNG Tapa wear to the famous Fijian Zulu, the 2014 Melanesian Arts and Culture Festival Fashion Show displayed some of the fascinating costumes ever designed by Melanesians.
It’s a whole new approach to the Fashion World and last night’s event has most definitely proven that Melanesians can spice up the Fashion Industry.
Not only was it a display of costumes, but those who attended got a fashion taste of the other Melanesia countries.
The categories included were Pacific wear, starting with PNG, Fiji and New Caledonia.
Bikini wear exhibited by the PNG models featured the well-known Northern tapa design. They are the work of the local costume designer Rose Amos.
New Caledonia began their show casing of evening wear, not only showing off the designs but had a little more for the audience with their infamous dance moves.
The West Papuans represented Indonesia and were seen displaying their costumes in the evening wear.
Participating only in the contemporary wear category was Solomon Islands. They displayed a magnificent costume design that had traditional necklaces woven together to create a fabulous hat.
Tonight will be the second night of the fashion show and the models from the five countries are currently displaying the final category, Casual wear.
