Education officials have given their views on a new learning concept, a year after its implementation.
It’s Think Tank Quiz where technology and the mass media are applied to educate people.
This alternative from the conventional received praise during its 1st Anniversary celebrated in Port Moresby on last week Thursday (25/10/12).
Founder John Kama is a teacher by profession coming up with the idea of making learning smart and fun.
“If I could make learning fun by getting to where the kids are, get into their heads, into their technology, mobile phones, television, get into what they want to do and make learning fun; then I can deliver the curriculum but alternatively out of the classroom, doing it 24/7,” said Kama.
The sms quiz on phone will be introduced next year.
Acting Secretary for Education Luke Taita described this approach as innovative and set to make a change.
“This is an opportunity that has come and the opportunity to use technology mass media to educate both literate and illiterate population of our country,” said Taita.
Knowledge and skills are the country’s capital and Papua New Guineans must acquire as much as possible.
Minister for Education Paru Aihi supports the initiative.
Minister Aihi said “with objective of providing quality education actually pulls the resources together. Everyone has to work together because it is just not about education department, it’s about PNG. It can contribute meaningfully to make sure that our children are given every opportunity to be educated. That’s the goal and that’s what we are going to do for the next five years.”
