Police Commissioner Condemns Assault On EM TV Crew

Police Commissioner Toami Kulunga has condemned the assault on members of the EM TV crew at 15 Mile on Sunday and has directed Commander NCD/Central Assistant Commissioner Jim Andrews to conduct an immediate investigation into the matter.

Commissioner Kulunga said the media is an important ally of the Constabulary and play a lead role in educating and informing the public.

He said, in doing so, they must also hold the Constabulary collectively, or individual policemen and women accountable for their actions, or conduct.

He said the RPNGC management acknowledges the right of the media to report the news to the people of PNG, and one way this is achieved is with the help of the media.

The Commissioner said it was unfortunate that some RPNGC members do not understand it.

Commissioner Kulunga reassured EM TV News staff that the policeman allegedly involved in the assault will be dealt with, both criminally and disciplinarily.
