Lands and Physical Planning Minister Benny Allan has directed the secretary Romilly Kila Pat to immediately issue a stop work notice to the developer of a portion of land in the nationโs capital. ย Mr. Allenโs direction comes after he noticed fencing around a well-known sports and recreational land situated at section 136, Lot 3, commonly known as Nomads Cricket Ground between the newly built Laguna Hotel and the Carpenters along Waigani Drive.
The piece of land was owned by a group of trustees in the 1980โs and 1990โs and was used by locals for cricket competitions and training among other sports purposes to date.
It is alleged the cricket ground has been given away to a controversial multi-million kina company. ย
He said NCDC has lost lots of sports and recreational land to foreign companies, including part of Unagi oval, OTC grounds and now the Nomads ground, creating a cause for concern.
Minister Allan therefore ordered an immediate investigation into the alleged dubious land deal.

Candidates of the failed LLG elections in the Enga province have raised concerns over the delay in staging supplementary elections.
Candidate Enock Yangala is urging provincial leaders to help out with the funding of K250, 000 in light of the electoral commission not fast tracking the funding. He told EMTV News itโs going to mid-year and the rural population will miss out on impactful services in health, education and road infrastructure.
It is understood that LLGโs throughout the country are supposed to get a funding allocation of K500, 000 per annum. Numerous LLG elections throughout the country were declared a failure last year.
The failure was caused by undemocratic and illegal activities jeopardizing what was supposed to be free, fair and safe elections. Affected areas included Southern and Western Highlands and Jiwaka.
