Clark: Financial Literacy Key For PNG Women

Former New Zealand Prime Minister and now Administrator to the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Miss Helen Clark, has commended efforts to raise financial literacy in women around PNG.

In a press release sent earlier today Clark emphasized the importance of financial literacy and it’s direct relationship with socio-economic growth and prosperity.

Miss Clark went further to say, “When women are taught money management skills, they become confident managers of money and financial risks. This includes a better understanding of the long term benefits of savings and planning for emergencies.”

Miss Clark, also the UN Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) Managing Director, made these statements while paying a visit to the UNDP/UNCDF partner Nationwide Microbank at the Vunamami United Church in East New Britain; an institution that trains women in the area of financial knowledge.

Miss Clark is in the country for 3 days for bilateral meetings with the government and other stakeholders.
