Summit To End Violence

A delegation from Papua New Guinea will attend the Global Summit on Sexual Violence in Conflict in London next week.

Today marks the start of the Global Summit to End Violence in Conflict.

As part of the campaign, an animated video was produced and uploaded on Social Media, You Tube that highlight the negative effects of sexual violence.

The film 'Don’t Believe the thumbnail; this is the stuff of nightmares', is a video that illustrates the issues through the eyes of a child.

The one minute video depicts the different type of violence a child is exposed to.

In the 2003 United Nations meeting, Papua New Guinea was amongst the 144 nations that endorsed the Declaration of Commitment to End Sexual Violence in Conflict.

Today, the British High Commissioner to Papua New Guinea, Jackie Barson,  including representatives of the Australian Federal Police, and the Juvenile Justice Arm of RPNGC, placed their palm prints on the a white board to show their support for the summit.

In Port Moresby alone, police stations record an average of forty to fifty cases of abuse daily.

The summit will also look at the role military can play in terms of assisting the victims when sexual violence happens at war zones. This board will form the backdrop of the Summit that will be held in London next week.
