The Mineral Resources Authority commissioned its first 25 residential units over the weekend.
This is part of the 50 that was approved by the MRA Board. These will be for staffs occupying 50 strategic positions within the organization.
These 25, three bedroom institutional residential units are located at eight mile in Port Moresby.
Attending the commissioning were MRA Board members, staff members, mining industry representatives, National Housing Estates Limited, and other government department representatives.
The first 25 commissioned were the first of the 50; the next 25 will be constructed next year.
Mineral Resources Authority’s Managing Director, Philip Samar, at the commissioning said, the board and management had recognised the staff need for accommodation, which is a basic necessity.
Mr. Samar said this program will be followed by a fully-fledged staff home assistance scheme.
The rest of the staff members will be given home assistance packages commencing this year to assist the rest of the MRA staff secure their own homes.
The board said it also realised the importance of housing as an initiative to retaining staff.
They had seen staff leave the organisation due to lack of housing.
