Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Inter Government Relations, Leo Dion has assured opposition leaders that their concerns on funds allocated to the Border Development Authority (BDA) will be investigated.
Mr Dion’s response comes after Opposition Leader Belden Namah and his deputy Sam Basil made a recent visit to border areas in the Vanimo-Green Electorate.
The Opposition leaders said BDA has ventured away from it core functions despite receiving massive allocation of funds from the government. Opposition Leader Belden Namah said no essential services are inplace to keep Papua New Guinean’s from crossing the border into Indonesia.
Mr Namah said over 15 thousand people have left their villages to seek better services across the border.
Meanwhile Mr Dion said, BDA is only to support capacity building developments and not to take over roles of Provincial, District and Local Level Governments. He said BDA’s mandate is very specific in the 6 provinces in the country.
Minister Dion will disclose a detail report on this matter after appropriate actions are taken.
