Gerehu Eviction Not Illegal

The residents were evicted on Wednesday, following orders from NCDC.

According to relevant sources, the eviction is to make way for the construction of a new road that will link Gerehu to Hanuabada.

All houses were demolished and tress were uprooted to make way for the proposed road. Relevant sources told EM TV News that the eviction was not illegal as numerous eviction notices had been issued to the residents since 2010.

However, most residents claimed they had never received eviction notices and say they were only given a demolition notice.

Relevant sources also say this eviction exercise is different from the one carried out at Erima; the National Government will not compensate the evicted settlers.

Meanwhile, EM TV is yet to get comments from the office of the Deputy City Manager for NCDC.
