Telikom Acquires Datec

Telikom PNG has announced its acquisition of Datec PNG Limited, subject to regulatory approvals.

Chairman of Telikom, Mahesh Patel, in a phone interview, told EMTV that there will not be any integration but Datec will compliment Telikom PNG’s retail business.

Mr.Patel said Datec will perform the retail functions that Telikom has been lacking, providing affordable services to Telikom customers. Telikom PNG made the announcement yesterday.

Today, the Chairman of Telikom, Mahesh Patel, in a phone interview said this is a value add to Telikom and not necessarily integration, but the two will operate as independent companies.

He said both will operate separately with Datec providing the retail services that Telikom does not have the capacity to deliver. This arrangement is yet to be finalised with regulatory approvals going to treasury for final approval,in accordance with the IPBC act.

As part of this strategy, the wholesale business of Telikom is in the planning process with IPBC and State Owned Enterprise Ministry, to come up with the wholesale structural separation of Telikom PNG.

With this acquisition, the chairman has assured Telikom PNG’s retail customers to expect affordable services in the retail area.
