SP Export PNG Open Kicks Off

The SP Export PNG Open kicked off this morning with professional and Amatuer Golfers from Australia, New Zealand, and PNG teeing off.

With total prize money of $350, 000 or K1 million on offers, many of the golfers were keen to get off the mark and stake an early claim to the jackpot.

Following the recently-ended Morobe Open, the Royal Port Moresby Golf club played host to the prestigious event that has attracted a good number of professional golfers to our shores.

Defending PNG Open Champion, Peter Zwart, was among a host of contenders who carried good form coming into the tournament.

Morobe Open winner, Heath Reed, known for his strong drives and putting finesse, has been considered a favourite, although with conditions in Port Moresby less humid than in Lae, the course has been considered faster.

Former Junior National Champion, 20 year old, Brian Taikiri, was also optimistic about his chances in the event, but did concede that illness would give him a slight handicap, away from the golfing pun.

The four day event is scheduled to end this Sunday, with the final presentations and awards to be given at the end of the competition.
