Lutheran University Ownership Tussle

While, the first building of the new Lutheran University is near completion stage, Morobe Governor, Kelly Naru has raised concerns about its ownership.

He says the Evangelical Lutheran Church should have majority in shares. The first building, in its final construction phase will be completed in the next several months.

Its a first complex built for the new Lutheran University, which will house modern information technology facilities, conference rooms and classrooms’. Known as a scale up classroom, with some of the latest in artificial intelligent technology.

A brief outlining the function and progress of the University was presented to the Morobe Governor, Kelly Naru, earlier this month. It’s understood that the brief presented to Governor Naru, and the Morobe Provincial Government, asked for a start-up funding of K1.5 to K2 million.

But at a conference in Fincshaffen, Governor Naru said he wants the Evangelical Lutheran Church to have majority ownership. “Since the University will be on ELCPNG’s land, it should own majority of its shares”, he says.

The Morobe Provincial government has stopped allocating money in 2010. But, it has invested over K2 million which is a 13% of the overall costs.
