Businessman On Manus Business Houses

A Manus businessman is adamant about local business houses on Manus having the capacity to provide for Australian personnel working on the processing center on Manus.

Sam Tasion says the government, through its Small Medium Business Policy, should look at assisting local businesses to meet that growing demand. He says, most local business are still not benefiting from this sector.

Sam Tasion is one of many local guesthouse and hotel owners in Manus, Lorengau Province. He says, the fight for local business participation through local guesthouse and hotel owners, is far from over.

Mr. Tasion says, local business houses on Manus have the capacity to provide accommodation for Australians working at the processing center. But the support from the government in assisting these local business houses, is non-existent

Early last month, Mr. Tasion met with Australian Prime Minister, Tony Abbott, about the plight of guesthouse and hotel owners in Manus, to provide accommodation for Australian personnel.

Mr. Abbott supported the idea about getting rid of the boats, and assured that his government would look into it. However, Mr. Tasion says, it was very unfortunate, that to date, the initiative has never been taken on by the provincial government to date.

Sam Tasion owns a three star hotel called Seeadler Bay Hotel in Manus.  Recently, he has added another 36 rooms to his hotel. He says, the same can be achieved by other local business houses, but there must be financial support from the National Government.
