Visionary problem is closely associated with older people, whom most of them, have been able to seek treatment.
Earlier this week, they gathered to get one of the health services, that they never got before. A team of eye specialist visited remote villages in the Garaina Valley, of the Wau-Bulolo District. They came to assess and diagnose people with visionary problem.
“Most of these people are older people who appeard to be affected more that those at the younger age”, said Dale Elijah Gatnie, the eye specialist.
Bulolo District started this program last year after realizing that, a lot of the older people in the electorate were having difficulty in seeking eye care.
“Most of our old people haven't been able to get this health service before; they have been deprived from these services because of the remoteness of our district”, Sam Basil said.
Nearly all the eye care programs in Papua New Guinea are established in urban areas, and the services provided are sometimes expensive, making it difficult for the rural population to seek help.
While Bulolo districts also struggles to deliver basic services to its people, Bulolo MP, Sam Basil says, the eye care program is also a worthwhile investment for the people in his electorate.
