Tari in the Hela Province is slowly building its tourism industry. Local businessmen are building guesthouses and lodges.
A Chef, Peter Habo, who worked for a renowned guesthouse in Tari says, the area has the potential. The Pi lodge is one lodge that provides a beacon of hope for the tourism industry in Tari.
Inside the lodge’s Kitchen is Peter Habo, he's cooking for guests who are residing at the lodge. Habo is an experienced chef from the Ambua lodge, who works at this locally owned establishment.
He has sacrificed greener pastures to help develop his Province’s tourism industry. He is preparing food according to guest’s preference, either local food or others.
The lodge is looking to attract all customers and contribute to the tourism sector in Tari. Whilst other Highlands Provinces have flourished, Tari has legged behind, because of Law and Order problems.
It comes after rapid economic growth in the Hela Province due to projects in Mt Kara and the LNG Project. Those in Tari who want to be involved in the industry, have taken the first step into building infrastructure. And whilst the Komo-Magarima district is preparing to hold the first ever Hela Cultural Show, the future looks promising for all lodges in Tari.
