By Jack Lapauve Jr – EM TV, Port Moresby

With the cost of delivering basic services increasing gradually, Treasury Minister, Patrick Pruaitch says the Cost of Services Report needs to be updated periodically.

Minister Pruaitch said this is to ensure the government has accurate statistics so services can be channeled down to district levels

The treasury minister made these remarks at the launching of the Cost of Services Report in Port Moresby recently.

Speaking at the launch of the 2011 Cost of Services Report, Treasury Minister Patrick Pruaitch said that the study establishes the level of fiscal needs that exist at the sub-national level on province basis.

Minister Pruaitch said, it’s not just the collection of data but the providing of policy advice to the level of funding to individual provinces and local level governments in the form of goods and services grants.

National Economic Fiscal Commission’s Hohora Suve, said that the study looked at recurrent operational and maintenance costs that were necessary to support the infrastructure that were already inplace.

Mr Suve said, the report highlights key factors that the government to consider in delivering services on time with better plans and budget costing.

Also launched was NEFC’s 2014 to 2018 Corporate Plan.
