Saint John Ambulance workers have called on the national government to quickly intervene and audit the organisation’s account books.
The call was made after the recent protest to EM TV news, for a stop work over pay and employment conditions.
Their actions follow the management’s decision not to pay the remaining two pay periods of 2014, which spilled from an internal memo due to shortage of funds.
Workers that were interviewed affirmed that mismanagement practices over the past years before the current Chief Executive Officer Andrew Kalai, has affected the organisation’s prosperity.
Staff suspended or terminated for misconduct in the office are still hanging loose in the streets of Port Moresby, and are yet to face justice.
The workers say this log of corrupt practices are the reason why they have unaudited account books. Until today, it is still unknown whether the books are audited.
Since the government injects funds into the NGO, internal and external audits are vital to guarantee their stance. The workers called on the national government to quickly intervene for smooth running of the organisation.
