Police reservist officer stabbed in Port Moresby

A reservist police officer was stabbed multiple times on his chest on Sunday night, 14 December at the Jack Pidik Park in Five Mile, Port Moresby.

He is now recovering at the Port Moresby General Hospital.

This attack brings the number of police officers assaulted by the public to four.

According to eye witnesses, the incident occurred at around 11pm when most families where returning home after the nightly festive celebrations at the park.

The stabbed officer was then rushed to the Port Moresby General Hospital’s accident and emergency ward where he is currently receiving treatment.

In the last three months, there have been numerous attacks on police officers at the Gordon’s, Hohola, and Nine Mile areas.

It is alleged that much of these attacks are said to be “personal revenge attacks” by members of the general public over the behaviour of certain rouge police officers within the force.

The incident at Five Mile is believed to be related to an earlier robbery by members of the NCD Reservists Unit on youths from the Six Mile area in Port Moresby.

According to police reports, the unit stole a sum of K800 from the youths on Friday.
