Boxing Day League

By Jeremy Mogi – EM TV, Port Moresby

Today’s day two of the annual Governor’s Christmas Rugby league Cup challenge continued with good action at the IPI Park in Port Moresby’s Hohola suburb.

Marin Stonvil showed great class against a tough and resilient Embari Dwellers. It was, however, the final score which was in favour of Marin Stonvil, sixteen to nil, after the final try right under the posts.

The competition, initiated by NCDC to involve youths throughout the festive period has been called a successafter previous competitions ended well.

Hohola suburb coordinators Josiah Wassey and Michael John Eka, praised the efforts of the police as well. Metropolitan Superintendant, Andy Bawa, made a small contribution in the form of sporting gear.

The Governor’s cup has been divided amongst the major suburbs of the city, with Unagi Oval, Kone Tiger’s and Ipi Park itself the three main venues of the competition.

A total of thirty two teams have taken part in the 2014 edition of the cup, with the top placed clubs from each competing in the cup finals, the second tier teams in the plate, and the bottom placed in the bowl finals.

The Hohola Bumpers have already qualified for the finals, the defending champions from last year, hoping to make it back-to-back.
