The first ever Home-Biogas Kit Project was launched yesterday at the Sogeri Reverend James Chalmers Memorial Church.

This biogas device is a donation from MASHAV, Israel’s Agency for International Development Cooperation, operating under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

This comes as part of a bilateral partnership between Papua New Guinea and Israel.

Community members of the Koiari District specifically Karakadahu, gathered to witness the installment of 1 out of 30 biogas devices.

Addressing the community Head of MASHAV, Her Excellency Ambassador Eynat Shlein said this project installment is just the beginning.

“This is the first for such system and 29 more of such events will happen soon as we are donating 30 of these special kits to Papua New Guinea,” said Her Excellency.

“This simple yet complex innovative device was developed in Israel where one can use domestic waste in order to produce energy and fertilizers.”

She said the most important thing to work on is to nourish the connection between both nations as there can be countless agreements however, she said people-to-people is the way to manifest friendship and alliance.

A Representative from the Callan Services National Unit 3E, Danny Kei, said Callan Services believe in ability, self-reliance and inclusive development where no one is left behind.

“This project reflects the same belief. This small biogas kit will do two big things for our families; one, it will produce clean gas for cooking and two, the waste from the biogas will produce rich organic fertilizer for vegetables, coffee, cocoa and food gardens,” said Mr. Kei

He described this innovation as a true secular economy where waste is turned into energy and income.

Mr. Kei further noted that this biogas system will provide clean energy for their homes and better harvest for their income.
