A boat carrying 14 passengers bound for Duke of York capsized yesterday afternoon at the same location as the July 18 tragedy near Pidgeon Island in East New Britain Province.
East New Britain Provincial Police Commander, Superintendent Amanda Kates, stated that the vessel’s point of departure remains unclear, with investigations underway to determine whether it left from Kokopo Beach or Tropicana Wharf.
Superintendent Kates confirmed that four passengers survived, nine remain missing, and one body was recovered this morning near Korere Ward, SSM.
“The Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary has deployed the Police Patrol Vessel Manning to assist with the search,” Supt. Kates said.
