The National Cultural Commission has recognized Mainohana Catholic Secondary School’s cultural show following this year’s event at the school.
This has seen NCC presenting the school with a Certificate of Recognition to formalise the achievement for the school located in Kairuku, Central province.
Acting Director of the Institute of Papua New Guinea Studies, Christopher Puio said, the certificate represents an important milestone for the school and recognizes the efforts of its students, teachers and communities in promoting and showcasing traditional cultures and values through songs, dances, performances and cultural activities.
“The recognition also provides an opportunity for the school’s cultural show to gain greater visibility and contribute to the preservation and promotion of Papua New Guinea’s diverse cultural heritage,” Puio said.
He said recognition of the school’s cultural show further demonstrates how schools can become important platforms to celebrate, promote and safeguard the country’s cultural traditions.
The cultural show coincided with the launch of ‘A Tale of Central Province’ a collection of 26 stories written by students of Central province in which students from Mainohana contributed 23 stories, making the school the major contributor of the publication.
