IBSU CELEBRATED ITS INTER-UNIVERSITY TEAMS

IBS University celebrated its first ever full participation in the 2026 inter-university games yesterday, reinforcing the University’s approach to holistic education through engagement in sports.
The university has participated in all five 2026 inter-university sporting codes with the backing of K150,000 from the University’s Management. The Director of Institutional Development, Sagara Wijeratne, said part of the University’s approach towards holistic education is through encouraging students to participated in sports.
“Sports is not just about wining, it provides a platform for you to demonstrate your sportsmanship, dedication, leadership, determination, discipline and perseverance” Said Wijeratne.
The University held an appreciation celebratory ceremony yesterday honoring its soccer team- the IBSU Northland FC, Basketball team- IBSU Hammers, Netball team-IBSU Malais, Volleyball Team-IBSU Guns and Rugby 7s team- IBSU Bullets.
Among the University’s five teams, IBSU Malais netball team is a newly introduced team formed recently to represent IBSU at University of Technology to partake in the Netball tournament.
Although the team did not qualify to semi-finals and Finals, the team Manager, Jemaimah Kuman, highlighted their experience as a learning ground and thanked the IBS University’s management for giving them the opportunity.
“We’re grateful for the IBSU management for supporting students to play sports.
“Sports is something that most people are interested in and for the we thanked the University’s management to help and assist each and every sporting code”
The IBSU Northland FC who participated in soccer competition at Divine Word Universty Madang Campus, highlighted their experience as an enforcement to University’s ethical standard.
The captain of the team, Trevor Kasir, said even though team did not bring back a trophy, the Northland FC was praised by the hosting institution for displaying good behavior on the field.
Meanwhile, bringing back the trophy and victory for IBS University is the IBSU Hammers, securing their third consecutive basketball championship at the University of Natural Resource in East New Britain.
The IBSU Guns also secured 4th place in the Volleyball competition at the University of Papua New Guinea and IBSU Hammers defended their home ground well in the Rugby 7s tournament, securing the University’s win.
