YOUTH POLICY REVIEW 2020 -2030 A SUCCESS
A two-day multi-stake holder meeting on the Mid Term Review of PNG National Youth Policy (2020 -2030) was held at Apec Haus in Port Moresby recently.
The review aims to ensure that the legal Framework of Governing Youth Development in PNG effectively supports implementation of the National Youth Policy.
The meeting brought together representatives from government agencies, civil society, churches private sector and development partners including representatives from Provincial levels to review the National Youth Policy to ensure that strategies are relevant, inclusive and effective in addressing Youth Development Priorities in the country.
The Director General for National Youth Development Authority, Joe Itaki outlined some strategies the Authority is working on to address issues concerning youths in the country.
He noted that the number of School leavers in the country is increasing at an alarming rate.
“In 2025, NEC has approved the National Youth Engagement Strategy.
That strategy has Directed NYDA and Ministry as a whole to reach out to District, Provinces and LLGs in the hope of mobilizing out of School Youths and having them processed, registered and referred into various sectors like Fisheries, Agriculture, Road works or any activity they is already existing in the Districts”. Ikati said
He added that NYDA has signed joint implementation plan with six Provinces including East New Britain, West New Britain, East Sepik, West Sepik, Manus and New Ireland.
“The policy review is a broad policy review that encompasses everything that NYDA is doing,” Itaki Said.
The Minister for Youth, Religion and Community Development Jason Peter and other leaders from government and private sector were present during for the Multi-stakeholder Meeting
