The Hekari United FC is walking into Premier Soccer League season 2026 unpunished of their “no-show” from last season.
This was revealed by PNG Football Association general Secretary Ahmjad Tekwie.
Tekwie said they had consultations with their legal council and have found out that the Hekari’s no show to face Lae City FC in the third and fourth play off from last season was an “internal blunder.”
Having said that based on the fact that Hekari has complied with the regulations, we do not have any authority or jurisdiction to be able to fine them on that,” Tekwie said.
He further stated that PNGFA is still investing the matter and the office that caused the blander will face internal disciplinary actions.
“Hekari did everything in accordance with regulation, they responded, they communicated via email but it was an oversight on our part,” Tekwie said.
“What we have done is we’ve conducted an internal investigation or assessment within the staff and penalised the staff responsible accordingly.”
However, no staff member of PNFA were penalised as yet regarding the controversial event that occurred last December 14, 2025 in Por Moresby. The issue since then left the football community in awe.
“As the investigation is ongoing, not at this time (no staff has been penalised) but most likely prior to the start of the season I can be able to (disclose the penalties and staff penalised). Later I can put some information out,” Tekwie added.
