The finals for the third edition of Basil Jr Football Tournament are currently underway in Mapos village, Buang and the title decider is set for the end of this week. The men’s and women’s division teams are battling to claim the share of K3,000 cash prizes respectively.
Tournament coordinator Ngawae Siling said, there are still 38 matches to be played across both divisions but they are anticipating to end the competition this week.
A total of 24 men’s and 11 women’s teams registered for the tournament and the finals is set to kick off today.
Siling added that, this year participation has increased hence teams have been placed into pools to play rounds against each other.
Both Male and female divisions saw each team playing five matches to advance out of the pool stages and into the final stages with no incidents reported so far.
He said majority of the teams are made up of locals from the area as he noted few representative players gracing the tournament through their presence.
