SHOOTING INCIDENT LEADS TO POLICE OFFICER’S ARREST

Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary has confirmed the arrest of a police member who was charged with attempted murder.

The officer was charged with attempted murder, deprivation of liberty and various firearms offenses following a shooting incident that occurred on Tuesday, November 11th.

Commissioner Manning confirmed this in a statement that the officer has been suspended, with various criminal and administrative processes underway. He also highlighted the commitment to accountability among all police officers.

In the same statement, Internal Affairs Directorate Executive Director, Chief Superintendent Steven Harris, emphasized that the swift response to the shooting in Port Moresby demonstrates the Internal Affairs Directorate’s commitment to cleaning up the police force.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Internal Affairs), ACP Emil Alpha applauded the swift response, highlighting that community support and reporting of rogue police members was critical to efforts to reform the Constabulary.
