PNG AND SI SIGN MOA ON AVIATION SAFETY INVESTIGATIONS

The Civil Aviation Authorities of Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to work in partnership on the Aviation Safety Investigations.

The signing took place at the 42nd Triennial Session of the International Civil Aviation Organization Assembly in Canada, by PNG Civil Aviation Minister Wake Goi, and Solomon Islands Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Communication and Aviation of Frederick Kologeto.

Minister Goi said in a statement that the agreement will enable both countries to share expertise, resources, training, and capacity-building programs in the aviation safety investigation space.

He explained that this will also support the independence of investigations from civil aviation regulatory and operational functions.

The MoU directly contributes to Iinternational Civil Aviation Organization’s initiative of “No Country Left Behind.

Where all states need to achieve and maintain effective safety systems.

This also consistent with the Asia and Pacific Regions Code of Conduct on Cooperation relating to Civil Aviation Accident/Incident Investigation, reinforcing both States’ commitment to regional collaboration and solidarity in aviation safety.

The initiative also reflects Iinternational Civil Aviation Organization Assembly discussions and recent recommendations by the International Air Transport Association.

Looking Ahead discussions for similar bilateral MoUs with other Pacific States are ongoing.
