
Raukele Cricket Club has celebrated 45 years of bad loses, good wins and a whole lot of talent discovery beyond the boundaries of Bisini Cricket grounds.
It has been 45 years of developing cricket in community level by uncovering talents that ended up represent PNG in the national teams.
The Raukele Cricket Club commemorated this milestone with a celebration at Amini Park on Saturday July 12, 2025.
During the anniversary celebrations club president Dean Ani spoke about the importance of family, tradition and preparation for future success.
“This 45-year anniversary celebration is about acknowledging our journey, our legends, and the young players who will carry us into the next 50 years. We are proud of the legacy Raukele has built and excited for what lies ahead,” Ani said.
The club was founded in 1980, from being one of the grassroot powerhouse in its early years it climbed to be one of dominant clubs in Port Moresby cricket competition.
The club has produced some of the cricket stars in the likes of Barramundis’ Tony Ura, Jason Kila, and Kiplin Doriga and not forgetting the Lewa’s prospect Melanie Ani.
The club continues to produced couple of emerging talents who are in the Cricket PNG (CPNG) development teams. They draw their talents from Hula Village, including nearby village and communities in Central Province
Looking ahead to the 2025 season, Raukele will be fielding teams across multiple divisions including Premier Men’s, Two Reserve Grades, Women’s Team and Under-17 Boys and Girls.
“We are committed to developing talent from the village – bringing in boys and girls every weekend. We believe the next generation of Barramundis and Lewas are already among us,” Ani said.
