The much-anticipated Ramu 2 Hydro Power project in the Eastern Highlands Province is set to commence beginning with the construction phase of the project.
Kumul Consolidated Holding Limited representative Olive Kapigeno, revealed this, during a brief meeting with the Eastern Highlands Governor Simon Sia, and the stakeholders at the Yonki project site last week in Yonki.
Kapigeno said that the project has commenced now after identifying potential consumers for the production of the Ramu 2 project, after Wafi Gold Mine in Morobe Province refused to buy.
Kapigeno added as well that K92 Gold Mining company in Eastern Highlands Province and the Ramu Nickel Mine project in Madang Province are showing interest in going into a purchase agreement with the Ramu 2 Hydro Power project,
She said that this has now given the confidence to investors, and based on the interest, KCHL has responded.
Kapigeno thanked the leadership of Governor Sia and the provincial government for pushing the project, with the approval by Prime Minister James Marape for the project to go ahead.
According to the information shared, the State Guarantee for the project will be issued shortly after the consultation forum report is presented to the National Executive Council.
The project was shelved for some years after all the feasibility studies had been completed, awaiting state guarantees.
