GULF PROVINCE BACKS TOARE CULTURAL CENTRE PROJECT

Gulf Provincial Administration has backed the Toare Cultural Centre project with K80,000.
The presentation was done last Friday July 4, 2025 at National Cultural Commission Head Office in Port Moresby.
National Cultural Commission Executive Director Mr. Steven Enomb Kilanda said the support is much needed and they will acquit for it.
“We need the Government’s support to help the Cultural Commission deliver important community projects, like the Toare Community Cultural Centre,” Kilanda said.
“That’s why I’ve been appealing to all provincial governments. We want them to partner with NCC so we can bring services closer to the people. Culture doesn’t live in Port Moresby. It lives in our communities back home. That’s why the provincial governments, who are the responsible custodians, need to work with us to deliver these cultural services.”
“It plays a vital role in the community, so we must make our people busy at the community level, which will reduce law and order issues in the country. Engage people to get involved in the community activities, and it will preserve our culture. We have a unique and diverse culture in the world. We must preserve that before it is too late, and we might become a replica culture. We must preserve our original traditional, authentic culture.”
The Toare Cultural Centre is a collaborative project initiated by UNESCO in partnership with the National Cultural Commission and the Gulf Provincial Administration.
Gulf Provincial Administrator Clement Tare expressed that the focus should also go into training to the custodians of the tradition to safe guard it.
“Youth in this country are time bomb and one way we can entertain them is through national culture and tourism,” Tare said.
“I wish the government of the day can see what we are doing. If we don’t involve you in some kind of participation in the cultural and tourist attraction Centre, we will face a big challenge with the youth.”
