Newmont staff visited students from Jubilee Catholic Secondary School this week as they prepare for the 15th Annual Sir Anthony Siaguru Walk Against Corruption this Sunday.

Hosted by Transparency International Papua New Guinea (TIPNG), the event aims to raise public awareness on the impacts of corruption and the importance of civic responsibilities.

Newmont’s Head of External Relations Asia Pacific Tim Bryson said, Newmont is proudly sponsoring two student teams from the school’s Youth Against Corruption Club to participate in the walk, reinforcing its mantra that the fight against corruption begins with empowering young people through education and active community engagement.

“As a company committed to integrity and social responsibility, Newmont recognises that building a culture of transparency must begin with the next generation,” Bryson said.

“By supporting Jubilee Catholic Secondary College students to participate in the walk, Newmont is investing in Papua New Guinea’s future leaders who will carry forward the values of honesty, accountability, and public trust,” he said.

The annual Walk Against Corruption is one of the country’s most visible anti-corruption initiatives, uniting civil society organisations, schools, families, and the private sector in a collective call for action. Proceeds from the event help TIPNG fund ongoing outreach, education, and advocacy programs across Papua New Guinea.

In addition to sponsoring student participation, Newmont is supporting the event by providing prizes for two walk categories: Civil Society Team – Best Creative Message and Family Team – Best Dressed. These contributions aim to help energise participants and reinforce the event’s
powerful message.

Transparency International chief executive officer Arianne Kassman, welcomed Newmont’s continued support of the event.

“The overwhelming assistance from our sponsors makes our work possible. We deeply value Newmont’s ongoing partnership through school sponsorship for the Walk Against Corruption and also as corporate members of TIPNG,” she said.
Kassman said this partnership has helped to advance integrity and anti-corruption efforts across Papua New Guinea.

This is the second year of supporting the Walk Against Corruption, where Newmont continues to align its community engagement initiatives with its global values – safety, sustainability, inclusion, and integrity – while helping build a stronger, more transparent future for Papua New Guinea.
