WESTERN POLICE NEEDS COMMUNITIES SUPPORT

By Jim John

Police in Daru cannot keep watch in all villages within South Fly District during this festive period due to logistics problem.

Ongoing logistics issues such as fuel, vehicle, dinghy and others have been affecting their performance, therefore all community members and leaders are encouraged to help reduce law and order situations in their villages.

Acting Provincial Police Commander for South Fly Command, Inspector Saiwa Ricker said police officers are continuing to perform their duties in Daru with limited logistics to ensure public safety.

He said the district can be peaceful if all people follow the rules and laws governing the society so as to maintain good order.

In recent years, there have been peaceful celebrations during festive periods in the province, hence the people of Western Province have been urged to maintain the same habits this festive period.

The people of North Fly District are advised that police have already commenced their operations last month and officers will get hard on anyone who misbehaves.

Western Provincial Police Commander for North Fly Command, Chief Inspector Oena Afeke said,” Wok Mas Go Yet” operation is continuing in the district.

“Don’t create problems for police personnel to apprehend you. You must be law abiding citizens so that good order is maintain in the community.” he said.

Chief Inspector Afeke has also called on youths and students not to involve in illegal activities this festive period as police including PNG Defence Force Kiunga based personnel are on high alert ensuring public safety.

Meantime, all stakeholders in Western Province are working together to deport those involved in fights as eviction exercise continues at the illegal settlements in Tabubil.
