Professional boxer and current welterweight BX-9 Welterweight interim champion, John Ume has openly praised his team and sponsor behind him for the win.
Ume humble told the press this morning that it IS not “I but we won this.” He expressed this at the presence of his sponsor and owner of Rapopo Resort, Jamie Pang at Sanctuary Hotel today in Port Moresby.
“Without the help I would not make this far. As you all know, we, not myself but we won the recent fight in New Zealand wining the BX-9 Welterweight interim and we are going to keep it here until next year,” Ume said.
He said this after returning to the country following his victory over New Zealander Hamza Perwaisy by a seventh-round knockout.
The boxer is currently residing at Sanctuary Hotel with his family for his recover before he returns to prepare to defend the title next year.
“There’s talk going with my team so we are looking for early March or February for the title fight,” Ume said.
Pang express satisfaction and announced continued support towards Ume.
“We are low key, we are grassroots, we don’t seek assistance from government or another organisation. We do what we have to do ourselves,” Pang said
“It’s the best feeling in the world when you win or who you sponsor whole heartedly win. When they win is just like yourself won. That feeling is unique.”
He said going into the future, their support to Ume will continue.
“In any competitive sport there must be an incentive. We are working out what incentive we will give to John to win his next fight, that’s in consideration,” Pang added.
