NFA SUPPORTS FISHERMAN

After a long wait of four (4) years, Bogibada Cooperative Society from Barakau Village, who lodged their application for funding support from the National Fisheries Authority (NFA) finally received more than K50, 000 worth of fishing equipment last week in Port Moresby.

Manager for Provincial Support, Bolton Towok said the NFA is now shifting into a new unit called Fisheries Development & Extension Support.

Mr. Towok said they want to see livelihoods of people improved as well as business-oriented initiatives for the people.

In the meantime, Mr Towok thanked Bogibada Cooperative Society for their patience. He said because of the Port Moresby market, NFA is now focusing on fisheries in Central Province.

Chairman of Bogibada Cooperative Society, Henao Vaea said the long wait is worth it for the 20-plus members of the cooperative society as they will now have a motor with a dinghy and fishing equipment, eskies/coolers, fish finders, nearly everything that a fisherman needs to improve their livelihood to sustain themselves and their business interests.

Mr Vaea said this is a great initiative for the Bogibada Cooperative Society as it will benefit the members of the cooperative and their families in the long run.

The presentation was done at the NFA office witnessed by Mr Glen Gani, Deputy Provincial Administrator Economic Services, and Mr Iga Peni, Advisor of Fisheries in Central Province.
