PNGTA ON TEACHERS WELFARE

The Papua New Guinean Teachers Association (PNGTA) has announced recent reviews to the PNGTA Constitution.

In its Triennial National Congress Meeting, the PNG Teachers Association made the following changes,

  • To defer their election from November 2022 to November 2025
  • To extend PNGTA Elections from three to five years and
  • To give powers back to the Industrial Registrar to supervise PNGTA Elections conducted by the Electoral Commission with PNGTA to fully fund the election.

A draft corporate plan was presented with all executives supporting the plan.

President of the Teachers’ Association Aita Sanangkepe said, “This corporate draft plan will now become the association’s tool to address teacher’s welfare”.

Other pointers of concerned discussed at the meeting include having a management database system and a proposed housing scheme for its members.

President Sanangkepe said negotiation talks are currently under-way with the National Housing Commission.
