Central Students raise funds to host upcoming forum

The Central Students Union from the University of Papua New Guinea will be hosting a forum in June this year.

This initiative is for all Central students attending Higher Education Institutions around the country, led by student representatives from UPNG, to discuss development agendas and address social issues in the Central province.

The students hosted a fundraiser last weekend in Port Moresby to raise funds in preparation for the forum in June.

The aim of the forum is to set a platform for concerned citizens of Central province to discuss and present alternative solutions and development agendas to educate, empower and unite the province.

Early this year, central students attending higher institutions raised a serious number of concerns to the provincial government with regards to school fee components.

Following a number of petitions signed by all central students attending universities and colleges around the country, the petition was presented to the governor.

With funding being one of the areas of concern to address social issues within the province as well as development agendas, Governor Robert Agarobe who was present at the event highlighted current underlying issues that were brought to the attention of the national government including the current saga in the slice of the 10% GST revenue between NCD, Central and Motu Koita Assembly.

Governor Agarobe contributed K5000 towards the hosting of the forum which will be held on the 7th to the 11 of June this year.
