NIP Governor Chan commends Decision to dismiss Stuckey and Schnaubelt

Chair of the New Ireland Provincial Assembly and Governor Sir Julius Chan has commended a recommendation to terminate the Provincial Assembly membership of Kavieng MP Ian Ling Stuckey and Namatanai MP Walter Schnaubelt.

Governor Chan says this decision is by law and not politically motivated.

In this case, the two Open Members were absent from three consecutive meetings of the Provincial Assembly, without the leave of the Provincial Assembly.

Chan says both Members failed to attend that specific meeting and, therefore, failed to provide satisfactory reasons for their absence from the Provincial Assembly.

The Open MP’s are yet to respond to this move by the New Ireland Provincial Executive Council.
