Hekari Kicks-off School of Excellence Program

In the pursuit of achieving a dream of having to bring home the FIFA world cup trophy one day for Papua New Guinea, Hekari Football Club has kicked off its ‘Hekari School of Excellence’ program.

Over a hundred youngsters as young as two-years-old turned on the first day on Saturday 14th February 2021 at Bisini Football Grounds in Port Moresby.

“I am looking at the footsol program that will really help with skills and good preparation for our children to take on challenges ahead,” says Hekari United Franchise owner Vonnie Kapi-Natto.

“It’s not only replacement for our Hekari Men’s and Women’s teams but we are working on our children who one day will represent us in the U-15s, U-17s and U-20s,” added Kapi-Natto.

Wira Wama, a certified children’s coach in Football and National Footballer says it is important to start them young.

“We need to build players when they are still young, as that it will be already late to teach them later on when they are older.” Said Wama.

Footballer David Muta also shared similar sentiments and strongly believes if PNG was to bring a World Cup trophy home one day, it starts in teaching them young.
