The Chuave District Development Authority in the Chimbu province has allocated over two million kina towards the district’s COVID-19 efforts.
This will cover the purchase of Personal Protective Equipment or PPE, with a focus on Agriculture and SME’s as well, to help small businesses affected during the lock down and the SOE.
The budget allocations were passed at a special DDA meeting held on Thursday.
The Chuave District Development Authority held the special meeting to address COVID- 19 efforts in the district.
Chuave District MP Wera Mori said because the disease currently has no cure, the district has to prepare and take preventative measures.
The DDA has allocated K600, 000.00 to support with purchasing personal protective equipment or PPE’s.
With the COVID-19 pandemic affecting countries around the world, businesses in the country are also being affected.
Mori said small businesses suffered due to the lockdown hence, the DDA has allocated one million kina to support them.
K500, 000 was also allocated to the agriculture sector to focus on food security, and K200, 000 for COVID-19 social interventions.
Whilst speaking to the locals in Wards 3 and 4 of the Chuave LLG, Mori emphasized on the importance on observing basic hygiene rules to protect themselves from COVID-19.
