Lae’s Baha’i centre celebrates universal children’s day

Children living in different parts of Lae city gathered yesterday at the Baha’i Centre to celebrate the Universal Children’s Day – the children who attend Baha’i Children Classes that include lessons on reciting prayers, songs and virtues in different locations within the city shared different quotes and prayers in the presence of their parents to mark their special day.

The 20th of November is a day recognised by the United Nations as the Universal Children’s Day.

Children attending the Baha’i children’s classes in Lae joined others around the world to celebrate the annual event. To mark the celebration, the children recited some prayers, quotes and virtues that were learnt during the classes.

Universal Children’s day was initially launched in 1954 with the goal of improving child welfare worldwide, promote and celebrate children’s rights and promote togetherness and awareness amongst all children.

The Baha’i children’s class coordinator, Dulcie Puinam, says spiritual education is just as important as any other factor that is needed in a child’s upbringing.
“For the children below five years old, we teach them Christian principles such as love, humility, trust and loyalty. We teach them this so they can practice them at home, for instance, for truth, they can practice by not telling lies to their parents.”

“Christian principles guides children to be well behaved now and in the future,” Puinam added.

Children’s day is a reminder to all about children’s rights to enjoy their childhood without any boundaries and to be given basic education for a better life.
