A young male was stabbed to death in West Taraka in Lae after he refused to give up his mobile device in a confrontation. He was accompanied by two other people when they were confronted by a group of men who demanded that he give them his tablet. According to police reports, he was stabbed several times in the chest and hand when he refused.
The boy was identified to be a grade eight student who had only completed his exams.
Lae’s Acting Metropolitan Commander, Chief Inspector Christopher Kunyanban, said the boy’s relatives were planning to retaliate when police intervened.
Four suspects have already been apprehended and will be charged with willful murder, according to Mr. Kunyanban. The stolen mobile device and murder weapon, were also confiscated by police.
Meanwhile, a firearm used in an attempted robbery last month was recovered by Lae police in a raid this morning. The vehicle used in the same incident was also recovered by police earlier.
