BY Vasinatta Yama – EMTV News, Mt Hagen The man accused of the multiple murders his partner, two stepchildren and their babysitter on the 6th of May appeared in the Mt Hagen Committal Court this morning. Christopher Johnson Kamo, has been charged with four counts of willful murder. The district courtroom was packed to capacity as Christopher Kamo, was escorted into the crowded court room. Kamo appeared before Senior Magistrate, Betty Jacobs who read out his charges. As Kamo walked in, people in the public gallery became rowdy. Many were visibly upset when Kamo took the witness stand. The court sheriff had to remove people from the public gallery. Kamo appeared calm as he acknowledged the charges read to him by the magistrate. Outside, there was also frustration as Kamo was transported back to the station under police security. The said the district court did not have the power to judge a suspect, but will commit the case to the higher courts if there is enough evidence. She also said the district court would not grant bail, but Kamo could apply at the National Court if he wanted to. The chances of bail being granted in such matters is minimal. Kamo is yet to testify to the police or in court his reasons for killing the four people. The Court heard that the six and eight-year-old stepdaughters died of skull fractures while the baby sitter and the suspect’s wife died of multiple knife wounds. The suspect will be held at Baisu jail while awaiting his next court appearance on June 26. Senior Magistrate Betty Jacobs gave the police one month to gather all the needed evidence and witness statements before the second court appearance.]]>
