Paraka Case Dismissed after Five Years of Court Battle

By Jack Lapauve Jr – EMTV  News, Port Moresby

After five years of being in court for conspiracy and money laundering, prominent lawyer Paul Paraka has won his case against the State. The Waigani District Court dismissed allegations against Mr. Paraka, stating abuse of the court process by the plaintiff.

Mr Paraka says it is now his turn to sue those responsible for tarnishing his name and reputation. He maintained that the claims he submitted to the State were legal. The offences charged were between 24th April 2007 and 17th May 2013.

The application appeared before the court decided on evidence for the prosecution. However, in 2014, the Task Force Sweep team was abolished by the Police Commissioner and an NEC decision.

The court ruled that this was an abuse of court process. Paraka says the rule of law must never be abused.

The owner of the single largest law firm in the country says for five years he has endured court battles for wrong reasons.

He says his fight has just begun.
