Farmers in the Hiri local level government area of the Kairuku-Hiri District are leading the way in maize production for Innovative Agro Industry PNG’s Ilimo Dairy Farm.
Maize is a vital feed component for the farm’s dairy cows, which produce the much-loved Ilimo Dairy Products.
Ilimo Dairy has been working with Central Province Agriculture Advisor Kila Gege and his team, together with Central Province Women in Agriculture to ensure proper advice is given to local farmers who wish to grow maize for the dairy farm.
In addition, IAI PNG has seen an increase in female participation as employees at the Sirunki Farm in Enga Province.
IAI PNG Chairman, Ilan Weiss said this is one of the proudest achievements of the project to date – creating an employment opportunity that acts as a catalyst for the community themselves to create pathways for women to be involved, supported by men.
