New Building Complex for Lae School of Nursing

Students of Lae School of Nursing have begun using the new academic building infrastructure funded by the Australian Government.

The facilities includes an Electronic Library, a conference room and student mess. It cost almost K25 million.

The Australian High Commissioner to PNG, Bruce Davis, opened the complex today in Lae.

The developments include the renovation of the administration block and the construction of this new building.

The infrastructure includes tutorial rooms, a computer lab, library and a practical room. The facilities were funded by the Australian Government at almost K25 million and is part of the Angau Hospital redevelopment project.

The Australian Commissioner to PNG, Bruce Davis, says the partnership between the Australian and the PNG Governments in the health sector is to provide trained staff and to address the shortage of skilled workers throughout the country.

Lae School of Nursing was established in the 1960s. In 2006, it became a collage under the University of Technology.

The college established a relationship with Angau as the school’s teaching hospital.

This development will benefit over 300 students.

Papua New Guinea’s Secretary for Health who was also present at the opening, says human resource development is important for the health sector.

70 desktop computers were installed at the Nursing School’s new electronic library room.

The room is part of the K24 million budget that was allocated by the Australian Government.

The challenge is now with the National and Provincial Government and the 9 districts of Morobe to help sustain these buildings.
