Barrick donates K6.5 million for Relief and Restoration

K6.5 million was handed to the Government by Barrick Niugini Limited yesterday for relief efforts to earthquake struck areas.

Despite being affected as well, Barrick says restoring lives is the priority for both the Government and the developers.

Prime Minister Peter O’Neill says more work needs to be done and all financial support received so far will help the coordination teams.

Meanwhile, Controller of the National Emergency Disaster Team says medical supplies are now reaching people in remote areas of Hela, Southern Highlands and Western provinces.

The logistics support to distribute relief and medical supplies have soared in the past weeks.

The Prime Minister says the K6.5 million will be used by the coordination team to assist supplies reach affected people.

With reports of water-borne diseases and treated diseases on the rise in affected communities, Controller of the National Disaster and Emergency Coordination team says medical supplies is now the priority.

As 15th March, 55 sites has been delivered food, water, medical supplies and other necessary basic needs. About 30 sites are yet to be reached.
