PNG Barramundis in Friendly Against Zimbabwe

By Dinnierose Raiko – EMTV Sports, Port Moresby

The Hebou PNG Barramundis met host nation, Zimbabwe in the warm-up match at the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers.

The PNG side went under again, this time by 5 wickets to the home side. The Barramundis won the toss and opted to bat first.

And between opening batsmen Lega Siaka and Vani Vagi Morea, they recorded a healthy score of 96.

Assad Vala and Sese Bau brought the score to 120 in the 30th over before they were dismissed. They were then cruising steadily on their way to 200, but Zimbabwe, obviously with their home ground advantage and strong bowling action were not going to allow that.

The Barras were 2 balls short of their allotted 50 when they were all at with 195.

Zimbabwe responded swiftly, beating the target in just 40 overs with 5 wickets to spare.

The Barramundis now look to their first match in pool A against the United Arab Emirates on Sunday.
