Stanfield Road in Kavieng to Go Major Upgrade

The Standfield road in Kavieng which stretches from the Kavieng airport to the beachfront War Memorial will undergo a major upgrade.

New Ireland Governor, Sir Julius Chan, visited the first phase of the road upgrade, of which 400 metres was graded by contractor SJC.

“When this road is complete in May we will have a four lane highway with street lights and footpath for the pedestrians from the airport through to the beachfront.  The same Contractor PNGSJC will also repair the Town roads and we have saved enough money in previous years to make the 2018 Budget with Government priority projects a reality.”

The 1.23 kilometre road development will require the realignment of power lines, water mains, communication lines and realigning of the Correctional Services perimeter fencing.

The upgrading of this road will come in two phases.  The first phase of works is from the airport to the Kavieng Court House and the second from the Court House junction to the War Memorial junction at the beachfront.

“This is the worst piece of road in Kavieng Town and a terrible eyesore that greets both arriving and departing passengers but we are changing that now.  We are not only changing the road but transforming the road infrastructure into a four-lane drive with street lights and footpath,” said Governor Sir Julius Chan.
